NEVI Charging — Ohio Valley

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program is funding 150 kW+ DC fast-charging sites every ~50 miles along federally designated Alternative Fuel Corridors. Below are the Ohio and Ohio Valley NEVI sites — online sites are pinned to the top, followed by sites in construction and announced awards. We re-check status weekly.

What is NEVI?

National EV Infrastructure Program

NEVI is a $5 billion federal program created by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It funds states to build a coast-to-coast network of public DC fast chargers along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors — primarily the Interstate system.

  • Minimum 4 ports, each capable of 150 kW simultaneously
  • Sites every ~50 miles, within 1 mile of an Interstate exit
  • CCS required; many awarded sites are adding NACS / Tesla connectors
  • 97% uptime requirement, open 24/7, payment without an app

DriveOhio's NEVI Rollout

Ohio's program is administered by DriveOhio and ODOT and was one of the first in the country to award NEVI contracts. Ohio received roughly $140M over five years to build out its Alternative Fuel Corridors.

  • Round 1 (2023): 27 sites awarded along I-70, I-71, I-75, I-77, I-80, and I-90. First Ohio NEVI station opened in London (I-70) in late 2024.
  • Round 2 (2024–25): Additional corridor and community sites awarded; construction underway through 2026.
  • Federal pause (2025): FHWA paused new state plan approvals; Ohio's already-awarded sites continue to move forward.
  • Hosts: Pilot/Flying J, TA/Petro, Sheetz, Love's, Francis Energy, and others across the state.
