Ohio Tesla Specialty Plate Interest Form
We need at least 150 verified Ohio motorists before we can submit the formal petition to the Ohio BMV.
Tesla Owners Club of Ohio is exploring the creation of an official Ohio specialty license plate for our statewide social car club.
Ohio already has a precedent for car club and vehicle enthusiast specialty plates. One example is the Buckeye Corvettes plate, authorized under Ohio Revised Code Section 4503.752, which allows eligible Ohio motorists to purchase a specialty plate with identifying words or markings designed by the organization and approved by the registrar. The statute also establishes a $20 contribution and a $10 BMV administrative fee for that plate.
Our goal is to follow a similar path for the Tesla Owners Club of Ohio.
This is an interest-only form at this time. Completing this form does not guarantee that a plate will be created, does not serve as the official Ohio BMV petition signature, and does not require payment. We are collecting interest to determine whether we can reach the required 150-signature minimum, and hopefully exceed it, before pursuing the formal process with the State of Ohio.

Other Tesla Owners Clubs have already done this
Pursuing an official state specialty plate isn't unprecedented — other Tesla Owners Clubs have already established this at the state level. While a state may have multiple local Tesla clubs, it makes sense to organize a specialty plate at the statewide level so every Tesla owner in the state benefits from a single, official plate.
The Tesla Owners Club of New York State is a strong example. New York has several Tesla owner communities operating within the state, but the specialty plate is issued at the state level through the New York DMV — giving every eligible New York Tesla motorist access to the same official plate.
