Tesla Voice Commands & Grok
Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. A quick-reference guide to the built-in voice commands, plus the newer Grok AI assistant rolling out on recent Teslas.
Meet Grok in Your Tesla
Many newer Teslas now have Grok, xAI’s conversational assistant, built right into the car. Instead of memorizing specific phrases, you can talk to your Tesla naturally — ask follow-ups, plan complex routes, or quiz it about your car like you would a passenger.
How to use it
- Wake word: Say “Hey Grok” (enable it in Grok > Settings).
- Steering wheel: Press and release the right scroll wheel or voice button, then ask away.
- Dismiss: Say “goodbye,” “bye,” or “turn off.”
What you need
- AMD Ryzen™ infotainment processor.
- Software 2025.26 or later (North America), expanding to other regions.
- Premium Connectivity or a stable Wi-Fi connection for cloud-based responses.
Example Grok prompts
“Route to the airport via a Dunkin’ if it doesn’t add more than 15 minutes.”
“I need to go to Best Buy, CVS, Starbucks, and then home. Navigate in the most efficient order.”
“Route to work via Main Street.”
“What does this dashboard light mean?”
“How much range do I have left?”
“Remind me to pick up milk when I’m near home.”
Safety note: Grok is great for planning and quick questions, but stay focused on driving. Let a passenger handle complex queries, or save those for when you’re parked.
Built-In Voice Commands

A few fun extras

Tips for the Road
- 1.Keep it brief. Shorter commands are understood more reliably, especially at highway speeds or with the windows down.
- 2.Wait for the beep. Start speaking right after the chime; talking too early can cut off the first word.
- 3.Use contacts and favorites. Save home, work, and frequent destinations so you can say “Let’s go home” or “Call Mom.”
- 4.Grok is still growing. It can already handle navigation and questions, but deeper car controls (like adjusting climate) are expected in future updates.
